It may seem like AZPX has been kind of inactive lately but that is far from the situation. Here is an AZPX random photo dump. Some old, some new. Most never published before. Enjoy.
- I have been invited by the Tempe History Museum to co-curate an Arizona Skateboard History Exhibit that will be happening late Spring next year. Most of my free time the next months will be devoted to this project.
- We have lost a lot of friends this year and it’s only September. A lot of time has been spent grieving and working on memorials.
- After a 4-month long injury that sidelined me, I have been back rolling as much as possible and not working on AZPX.
- We are making boards again. Stay tuned….
Much love to all the High Rollers out there.
One of my favorite young-guns to roll with just happens to be the son of one of my oldest buddies, Todd Joseph. Sam here is an all-terrain ripper and this photo is rad on so many levels. JFA tee, Whack Hole Ramp with the mural, Sam’s epic style…. Photo: Julio Saenz
Just another day skateboarding as many pools as possible in the Badlands of the 51 Build.
I have no recollection of this photo or this day but it looks like an early Desert West contest. Anyone got any info? Nice light leak.
Here’s a young Jeff Westling in his parent’s side yard in Tempe doing what Jeff did best: absolutely destroy EVERYTHING! Jeff would do this pictured maneuver by going fakie as fast as he can and boosting up the wall back down to a tail-bash. Don’t let the scale of the ramp fool you, Jeff is about 8 feet tall. This motherfucker killed everything in his path. We called him ‘Jeff Dahmer’.
Just a shitty pic of me side-walling a classic Tempe Steep-n-deep that happened to be in my buddy Carlos’ backyard. Face wall was grind-able but man, those side walls. Note the Alva shorts, crappy Reebok rip-offs and the shirt sleeve on the head.
An awesome photo of my skate homies: Mike Hathcote, Donnie Ho (R.I.P.) and Ryan Swick with a photo bomb of Mike’s pup Ringo.
Uncle Wiggly deck with an Insurrection stencil at Julio’s Ramp in Mesa. This is where I learned to drop in.
Dutton’s ramp in my backyard off Kyrene and Santa Cruz in Tempe. The thing was an engineering marvel for it’s time and Professor Shawn (R.I.P.) figured the whole thing out in his head.
That’s Mike Watt chimping away at the ‘puter during one of his many tours. Mr. Watt and the gang crashed at my pad after the gig at Nita’s Hideaway. Much love, Mr. Watt!
In 1999 I was 32 years old and considered the old-fart at the skatepark (Desert West) even then. Legend line-up: Joey Albillar, Doug Edwards and Tom Cooper pretending to know me.
Finally, here’s my bro Tommy Harris modeling his new AZPX gear. Thx for the support ripper! The AZ Crew misses you!
Thanks for checking the first installment of the AZPX Random Photo Dump! Until next time!
