I’ve been a Powell/Bones wheels loyalist for 30+ years. But SpeedLab Wheels have made me a true believer.
With today’s abundance of skateparks of varying terrain and concrete mixes and surfaces, some parks and ramps can get a bit slick for most wheels. When skating these slicker parks, you tend to hold back in order to stay upright. SpeedlLab Wheels are a game changer. I got a set of the Checkmate 58mm 101s and I was able to dig really hard into carves and grinds on a vert bowl that is normally pretty slick. My confidence level shot through the roof! With most wheels, the harder they are, the slicker they are, but with these, they are hard, fast and grippy! The perfect combo! I’m not sure what kind of sorcery/black magic they use in these wheels…maybe it’s unicorn tears, but whatever it is, IT WORKS! – Mike Hathcote
