Me and Mike Watt, Hanging at My House

Back in June 2002, Mike Watt was touring with his other outfit, The Secondmen in preparation of recording ‘The Secondman’s Middle Stand‘ came through Arizona and crashed at my place after the gig. What the hell was Mike Watt, Pete Mazich and Jerry Trebotic doing at my house? Simple: Watt put out the call for tour crash pads and I offered.

I had known Watt for a bit at this point, I made a painting of D.Boon (used in the above flyer) that I sent to Watt. The painting was super-heavy impasto black oil on silky-smooth white enamel board, which pretty sums up the music of The Minutemen. He was stoked. The painting gave birth to Watt having me layout the image for a sticker, which is the same sticker he carries with him on tour to this day. Much gratitude for the opportunity.

Below are some old scans I recently found inside a sub-sub-sub-folder. I have been looking for them since I found out Watt was coming to the Valley Bar for “Dick Watt Tour 2019” on Tuesday, October 29 with AZPX Records recording artists Fat Gray Cat opening the show along with AZPX Alumni The Father Figures warming up the stage before Watt revs up the machine. Good times.
