Hey now! Every couple weeks I will be posting some old advertisements from some of my favorite skate mags. Most of the ads will be from the 80′s and early 90′s, with some current stuff as well as some REALLY OLD SHIT. I will also be posting some old scanned photos from the mags, interviews and whatever else catches my eye. The ads in this post are all from 1986…
Lance Mountain rules
This was before Dressen got his own pro model for Dogtown. He is riding a ‘Web’ deck and it looks like he is doing a pogo to 50-50…?
This deck was a tank! Zorlac had some cool shapes and this one definitely stood out. Gibson ripped and was from Texas so you know he had a mean frontside boneless!
Jeff Kendall getting Indy in a Gullwing ad. Looks like he is riding the prototype deck that would eventually become his pro model for Santa Cruz.
Gonz with a street plant. This trick was pretty popular back in the day and you don’t really see anyone doing them anymore. Bring back the street plant…? Photo : Bryce Kanights
Lucero floating one over the channel. One of my favorite shapes and graphics from Schmitt Stix. They were putting out some killer decks in the mid-to late 80’s. Photo: Grant Brittain
RIP Jeff Phillips!! He had some of the best frontside ollies. Photo: Tod Swank
Schmitt Stix giving the up and coming sponsored am’s on their team some props…I see Chuck Hults blasting one at Sellers old ramp in Mesa. You were almost guaranteed to see some pro’s if you went out to that ramp. Had some great times there…
Ross Goodman muted on a Sam Cunningham deck. Blockhead was founded in 1985 in a northern California garage by Dave Bergthold and lasted about ten years. They had some really cool shapes and graphics. Ron Cameron had really cool style with his graphics and the way he would set up their print ads.
