On October 27, 2023 I’m going to celebrate the long journey of playing in the Father Figures for the past 14 years. We decided that it’s time to formally say that the project has run it’s course.
This will be our 100th show but only the 5th show in the last 5 years. The Pandemic and other circumstances slowed us down a lot. After some time to reflect on what we want to do we realized that trying to recreate the energy and drive we had around the time we released Heavy Lifting just isn’t going to happen. We really put our hearts into the work of creating music together and accomplished more than we ever dreamed of when we started. We don’t want to ride the wave of our past. We can’t do it at the same level so we decided to move on. All three of us feel that we left it all on the field so to speak.
Playing in the Father Figures has been the best musical experience of my life. I grew more as a musician than ever before. I went from kinda playing guitar to creating the sonic spaces I had hoped to. I worked with Tom Reardon and Bobby Lerma; two fine gentlemen who collaborated equally and made me want to do the homework to step it up when we were together. We set goals and achieved them. We worked through the ups and downs. We talked it out. I can’t ask for better friends or bandmates.
The show on Friday, October 27th at Valley Bar is going to celebrate the many connections we have made along the way. We will play two sets of music. The first set will start with Living Room Collective. The collective is myself, Tom Reardon, Michael Pistrui, Ben Sanchez and Bill Goethe. We get together in my living room to jam and record. We have two tracks that will be released digitally soon. The collective started when I had an idea of doing everything at home as a project rather than a band.
Moonface, which has Bobby on drums, will also play a few songs in the first set.
To finish the first set The Father Figures will play several songs with guests we have collaborated with in the past. Drew Cline, Mark Anderson, Tom Jonovich and Michael Pistrui will join us.
The second set will be the longest set we have ever played live! I’m really looking forward to this celebration and hope all my friends can be there. I’m so thankful of all the support we have gotten over the years. Our fans made it so gratifying. Thank you and good night! –Michael Cornelius
