AZPX VHS Series No. 1: Western Village Pillage + BONUS #SolaFiles Photos

The AZPX VHS (Very High Skaters) Series is our way of presenting our distant skateboarding past with footage and stories lifted from VHS tapes that have been sitting in a box since the late 80’s. The skating is not spectacular but the settings are and you get a raw portrait of how it went down. The quality, editing and sound are sketchy. This is some analog shit played on a big screen HDTV while being recorded to a smartphone on a tripod. I suck at video editing programs so what you see is what you get from my limited skills in the craft.

The first installment of the series, “Western Village Pillage”, captures the plight of one of Arizona’s treasured pools, The Grand Amoeba (situated at the site of a hotel, The Western Village off 15th Ave & Grand in Phoenix). This bowl was so insane the spit gutter coping still made it an all-time favorite. Lots of heavy sessions went down right up to the day before this footage was shot. I didn’t have a vehicle back then so of course I missed the session but somehow the stars aligned for me and DC Tom was down to take me AND he had a cam-corder!
