The other night an epic sesh went down at Arizona’s Skateboarding Disneyland: The Lovell’s Private Skate Compound. Once a month the Lovell Family is more than gracious by inviting our group of old farts to come shred their skate offerings. What I personally thing is the best bowl in Arizona, we look forward to these nights like it’s Xmas eve Groundhog Day style. With the weather breaking a bit, this month’s session brought out a heavy crew all smelling like Ensure and BenGay. Master lensman Colin Choy made it this time with son Ethan in tow and brought his camera. Choy always has some fucked up settings going on with his gear and this night was no different. Heavy shadows, slow shutter and some over-exposure led to some pretty epic photos. This effect really captured the human side of skateboarding and what’s the most compelling is the look on everyone’s faces as they navigate the insane terrain. It seems Colin was focused on facial expression than the actual skateboarding itself. In an age of quick vid clips, still photography will always have a place in skateboarding. Thanks to dudes like Colin, keeping the stoke going! Enjoy!
